James W. Pollack, age 89, of Crystal Lake, IL, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
He was born on May 23, 1935, in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Jerry and Lillian (Levy) Pollack. Jim attended schools in Elmhurst, IL, graduating from York High School. He was a veteran of the US Army.
Jim married Sandra Kay Brown (née Hunter) on October 24, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Island Lake, Illinois.
He was employed as a driver for Marshall Field & Co., UPS, dairy companies, and limousine services. Jim spent many years driving over-the-road long-haul shipments for Marshall Field & Co., supplying stores across Texas from headquarters in Chicago. He was received as a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Island Lake on November 13, 2011. An avid reader, Jim enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling. He loved classic cars, auto racing, and riding his motorcycle. More than anything, Jim cherished his family, finding ultimate joy in the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family’s pets were often strays that Jim found along his driving routes, usually in rough shape. He loved all animals and received the love and comfort of service dogs in his final days. Jim was the first one up on Christmas morning, often at 3:00 a.m., not just when his children were young but throughout his life. He loved the magic of Christmas and passed this legacy on to everyone in his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughter Janet (Gary) Ritter of Villa Park, IL; son Dan (Sheryl) Pollack of St. Charles; grandchildren, Amy (Jack) Anthony of Carol Stream, IL, and Jessica (Patrick) Engle of Mundelein, IL; four great-grandchildren: Quinn, Jake, Austin, and Bryce; and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Joanne Charlotte Pollack (née Schultz), and his brother Warren John Pollack.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Island Lake, IL. Please join an informal gathering from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Kyle Richardson, followed by a luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Island Lake, Illinois 60042, or Christ in the Wilderness, 7500 Randecker Rd, Stockton, IL 61085.
